Eleanor Burns Machine-Quilted Finish Technique

My DD is going to graduate from high school in 2012 and I thought I would create a twin-size quilt for her college dormitory.  I began this in November 2010 ('cause I'm a busy gal and wanted to be ahead of the game) and am just now working on its completion.  The following pictorial displays Eleanor Burns' machine-quilted finish technique from her 1991 Quilter's Almanac Quilt Block Party, Series No. 3.  ISBN 0-922705-34-8

Part 2

Two rows down, two to go!  More later....including yellow sashing running left & right between the layers.

Have you ever used Eleanor Burns' quilting techniques before?
I learned this in a start-to-finish class at our local quilt shop!
How about you?
I sure do appreciate your comments - thank you!

  1. I love those colours!! The sampler quilt I am making at my local quilt group at the moment is quilt as you go. It is a double and we are all beginners. It’s much easier but uses lots more fabric/wadding.

  4. I love your pictures and of course your blocks! Thank you, this has given me a new idea for quilting some detailed blocks I have just made in a QAL - quilt as you go would mean they would be much easier to do much more detailed quilting.

  6. Will have to check out that method. The blocks are so cute - they're going to make a great quilt.

  7. I haven't heard of that method. I'll have to check it out. Your daughter's quilt is going to be gorgeous and will really brighten her dorm room. Dorms can be pretty dreary places with their beige walls.

  8. I appreciate all your encouraging comments so very much! If I can possibly help inspire someone to begin quilting or use techniques I have, as a beginner (eight months under my belt!), it would be such a thrill - thank you for sharing with me!

  10. What gorgeous blocks! I'm new to quilting - haven't actually started one yet, but I am collecting my fabric and getting ready to... so this is especially informative for me!

  11. Beautiful. I'm particularly interested in the design for the block that is a fancy pinwheel. Trying to find the name of this block/pattern on your blog.
But, overall you did a great job. Inspirational (I want to make it).
